EDI Lesson

Activate Prior Knowledge

EDI®, a method of designing lessons and delivering content to students, has eight essential elements. An EDI® lesson will state the learning objective, activate the students' prior knowledge, develop the concept and importance of the lesson, demonstrate the skills students need to acquire, check for understanding throughout the lesson, use teacher guided practice and closure to check that students are ready for independent practice. Below are video links that demonstrate these techniques in action. You'll also find examples of different teaching strategies that can be used to help students' learn.

Activating Prior Knowledge links the learning objective's concept or skill to something that the students are already familiar with or something that they have learned in the past.
