Multiple Measures Analysis
California STAR test and local assessments; results analysis and disaggregations

This report includes disaggregations of the California STAR test results and local district multiple measures assessments plus individual student results.

Why is the Multiple Measure Analysis valuable?

The Multiple Measures analysis is used to overcome reliance on a single test to determine student achievement. It provides schools with detailed analysis of the results of state tests and their own locally created assessments.
When disaggregated, student assessment results can be used to zero in on specific areas to improve instruction. Then next year, and every future year, students will have been taught better, will know more, and will score higher. (This will cause long term increases in student achievement.)
The individual student results can be used to select students for gap-filling interventions to be provided in addition to day-to-day, grade-level instruction.
The assessment results can be used to measure, monitor, and improve student achievement. This information can also be helpful in preparing presentations for staff or the public.

How does it work and what does the school need to provide?

The school sends a copy of the test results file provided by the state. The school also sends results of local assessments. (If results are not available electronically, DataWORKS can produce scan-able data collection sheets.) DataWORKS programmers use the data to perform the multiple measures calculations and generate the disaggregated results. A one-inch binder with results in color along with individual student results are prepared and shipped directly to the school. Separate binders are prepared for each school plus a district binder showing school to school comparisons.
The analysis incorporates aggregation of multiple assessments to more accurately measure student achievement, disaggregations and analysis of the annual California STAR test results plus local assessment results to measure, monitor, and improve student achievement. API, AYP, STAR, and local assessment results disaggregations by school, grade, performance levels, Title I, English Learners, special education, GATE, gender, free lunch, parent education level, and ethnicity are also included. The analysis features year-to-year cohort and non-cohort comparisons. Student rosters are also provided to show individual student results.
