Intensive Star Analysis & Presentation
California STAR test results; analysis & onsite presentation of results
| |
This presentation is used to go over the disaggregated reports and results of the
California STAR testing. The emphasis is on how to use the assessment results to
modify instruction so scores will improve in the following year.
Why is the California STAR test results analysis & onsite presentation valuable?
| |
When disaggregated, student assessment results can be used to zero in on specific
areas to improve instruction. Then next year, and every future year, students will
have been taught better, will know more, and will score higher.
(This will cause long term increases in student achievement.)
The individual student results can be used to select students for
gap-filling interventions to be provided in addition to day-to-day, grade-level instruction.
(This will provide only short term gains, however, since only the current students are helped,
not any future students.)
The assessment results can be used to measure, monitor, and improve student achievement.
This information can also be helpful in preparing presentations for staff or the public.
How does it work and what does the school need to provide?
| |
The schools send a copy of the test results file provided by the state.
DataWORKS programmers upload the data and generate the disaggregated results.
A one-inch binder with results in color along with individual student results are
prepared and shipped directly to the school. Separate binders are prepared for each
school plus a district binder showing school to school comparisons.
After preparing disaggregated results of the California STAR test, a DataWORKS
researcher comes to present and interpret the test results and to provide guidance
in the use of the results to improve student achievement. The school must provide a
suitable meeting room with a screen and an overhead projector.
