Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) Classroom Coaching

A DataWORKS researcher goes into the classroom to observe lessons and to provide feedback to teachers on their use of effective research based lesson components. Instructional leaders must attend to learn how to do Classroom Coaching to provide support for effective and ongoing implementation.

Why is Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) Classroom Coaching valuable?
The most important factor in student learning is the teacher in front of the classroom. Research has shown that no matter how well intentioned, effective staff development requires extensive monitoring, feedback, and coaching to facilitate effective implementation amongst all teachers.

What is Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) Classroom Coaching and what does the school need to do?

A DataWORKS researcher goes into the classroom to observe delivery of lessons and to provide coaching to teachers.
The principal schedules teachers for observations and provides this schedule in advance to DataWORKS. The teachers should be teaching the lessons already reviewed during the Lesson Plan Feedback day. The principal (and other administrators) must accompany and be trained to make observations and then continue to observe over additional days until all teachers are observed and provided coaching.
This process should be repeated until all teachers are consistently designing lessons that incorporate effective research based components.
