| Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) Content Area Literacy Lesson Plan Feedback |
| |
A DataWORKS researcher goes to the school to provide feedback on lessons written and designed
by teachers that incorporate Content Area Literacy strategies to help students access information
through reading, especially expository text. Instructional leaders
must attend to learn how to give
Lesson Feedback to teachers to support effective and ongoing implementation.
Why is Content Area Literacy
Lesson Plan Feedback
valuable?
| |
Students don’t benefit from staff development that is not implemented.
Meeting with teachers and providing feedback on their lessons facilitates rapid and
correct implementation of the strategies covered during the workshop.
| How does it work? |
| |
Typically, the school uses roving subs to periodically pull out groups of teachers.
The teachers meet with a DataWORKS researcher to review the lessons they have written.
Feedback is given on the use of content area literacy strategies, alignment to standards
and use of effective lesson delivery components. Teachers are pulled out by grade level
or content area to meet in a conference room provided by the school.
This process should be repeated until all teachers are effectively incorporating
Content Area Literacy strategies (help students access information through reading)
into their lessons plans.
