| |
|
This workshop is an all day (one to two days) staff development in Content Area
Literacy strategies that improve students’ abilities to learn through reading.
Instructional leaders must attend to learn what the teachers are learning and to support
effective and ongoing implementation.
|
|
What makes the Content Area Literacy
Workshop
important?
|
| |
|
Content area literacy refers to the ability to learn through reading.
Student learning in all content areas is improved through strong reading
comprehension strategies and studying skills.
|
|
Students need to know how to apply a variety of reading comprehension strategies
to different types of texts, analyze the structures and features of expository texts,
and select and vary their reading strategies for different texts and purposes.
This training will show teachers how to model and provide explicit instruction in
these skills and strategies and provide students with frequent opportunities for guided
and independent practice using them.
