| Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) Cognitive Strategies Workshop |
| |
This workshop addresses using brain research to make well crafted Explicit Direct Instruction
lessons even more effective for students. The training applies research regarding how the
human mind processes, stores and retrieves information. During the session, teachers develop
lessons with integrated cognitive strategies that accelerate student learning and retention.
Instructional leaders must attend to learn what the teachers are
learning and to support effective and ongoing implementation.

What makes the Cognitive Strategies
Workshop
important?
| |
If all teachers designed lessons that specifically included cognitive strategies,
students would learn faster and have improved retention of the content being taught.
In over 25,000 classroom visitations, DataWORKS has rarely seen (less than 5% of classrooms)
cognitive strategies being used to help students learn and remember information.
By including cognitive strategies that improve students’
ability to learn declarative knowledge (knowledge about things) and procedural
knowledge (knowledge about how to do things) teachers make lessons even
more effective for students.
How long is the workshop and what does the school need to provide?
| |
The workshop is an all day (one to two days) staff development in improving
student learning by incorporating brain based cognitive strategies into
Explicit Direct Instruction lessons.
The school must provide a suitable location with a screen and an overhead projector so that
all participants can easily view the workshop materials.
