| Instructional Leadership Classroom Coaching |
| |
|
School leaders and a DataWORKS researcher go into the classroom together.
Leaders are trained in what to look for in the classroom: measure, monitor . . . make better.
|
|
Why is Instructional Leadership
Classroom Coaching
valuable?
|
| |
|
Instructional Leadership refers to managing the school’s instructional program,
not managing the school’s facilities.
Instructional leaders need to have a career long relentless focus on improving how
their students are taught.
|
|
Instructional leaders need to collect, measure, monitor, and improve input
processes (teaching) in order to produce improvement in student achievement (output).
Better inputs, better outputs. Instructional Leaders who provide classroom coaching
will improve the effectiveness of classroom instruction.

What is Instructional Leadership
Classroom Coaching
and how does it work?
|
| |
|
During the Instructional Leadership Classroom Coaching, school leaders are trained how
to provide classroom coaching to teachers. School leaders and a DataWORKS researcher go
into the classroom together. Leaders are trained in using a coaching rubric that provides
specific measurements of effective teaching practices. Leaders then provide concrete coaching
to individual teachers in a non-judgmental manner. This session trains leaders how to provide
classroom coaching to improve the effectiveness of classroom instruction.
|
|
The principal can either schedule teachers for observations or do an unannounced random
selection of classrooms to visit. A DataWORKS researcher accompanies school leaders in
classrooms and trains them in classroom coaching using a coaching rubric measuring
effective teaching practices.
|
|
This process is often repeated multiple times during the school year to monitor and support
school-wide implementation.
