No Parent Left Behind Program
Parental Involvement
The involvement of parents in their children's education is very important because, as a child's first teacher, they have the most influence on their children's learning habits. If parents nurture and stimulate education at home, their children will be more successful academically.
This program encourages parents to become more active in their child's education. Parents will be provided with useful information and strategies that will help increase the effectiveness of their involvement and enhance their child's learning habits.
Program Mission
DataWORKS Educational Research has a persistent focus on improving the way students are taught until all students are successfully taught grade-level work every day. It is with this intent of service that we have created our "No Parent Left Behind" program. With the implementation of this program we are able to assist our schools in accomplishing their goals in the education process by enhancing the links between parents and students, parents and teachers , and, ultimately, students and teachers. Supported by our broad experience in educational research, the "No Parent Left Behind" program is your school's strongest ally for achieving and maintaining stability and for reaching your greatest expectations.
No Parent Left Behind Procedures
The No Parent Left Behind Workshops offered by DataWORKS Educational Research are parent-centered. That is, close attention is paid to ensure successful attendance and participation of parents in all the workshops. The following steps and procedures characterize the workshops.
- Parents take part in 4 training workshops during the academic year. Two workshops are conducted in the fall and two in the spring. The workshop sessions are repeated throughout the day to make it convenient for all parents to attend. Usually one workshop session is offered in the morning, one in midday, and one in the evening.
- Every attempt is made to alert parents of the date, time, and location of the scheduled workshops.
- First, an invitation is addressed and mailed to each parent in the school inviting them to attend the No Parent Left Behind Workshop.
- Second, each parent with a child in school is contacted by phone to reiterate the invitation and pertinent information for the No Parent Left Behind Workshop.
- Finally, a flyer with the No Parent Left Behind Workshop date, time, and location is prepared and distributed to each student to take home and remind parents to attend the workshop.
- Active parental participation is encouraged and supported throughout each workshop. The Coordinator for the No Parent Left Behind Program together with a Parent Representative facilitate each Workshop. Another group leader in the workshop is the Parental Note Taker who takes notes for the meeting and reports and collects suggestions from the parents. The Parent Publicist informs parents of school and community events beneficial to their child's education and to their role as parental leaders in education. In addition, the Parent Publicist also solicits support from businesses for Parental Involvement functions.
- To encourage parent participation in the Workshops, various forms of incentives are awarded. Gift certificates, pizza parties and/or other special surprises go to the classrooms with highest number of parents in attendance. The names of parents who attended each workshop are placed in a drawing for a chance to win a computer, the grand prize incentive at the end of the school year.
- Not forgetting the important role of refreshments as ice breakers and solidarity builders, the No Parent Left Behind Program treats attendees to refreshments at each workshop. Children are always welcomed to attend workshops with their parents.
