| Parental/Community Involvement "No Parent Left Behind" |
| |
DataWORKS puts on a series of parental/community involvement meetings at the school.
Why is Parental/Community Involvement
"No Parent Left Behind"
valuable?
| |
Although parents cannot be expected to teach content to their
children (that’s the role of the school), they play an
important role in supporting their students’ education.
In addition, many state and federal programs mandate parent and community
participation programs.
What is Parental/Community Involvement
"No Parent Left Behind"
and how does it work?
| |
DataWORKS puts on a series of parental/community involvement meetings at the school.
Several topics are covered during the trainings. First, if necessary,
a description of the school’s role in a mandated improvement program such
as II/USP, CSR, Program Improvement, etc. is given. Second, the importance of
parental involvement at school and at home is demonstrated and discussed.
Following these, parents are provided training in the rigor of the Content Standards
and effective classroom instructional practices. Parents are then shown how schools,
teachers, and parents can optimize time on task. Finally, parents are informed of
ongoing assessment results at the school.
Fliers are prepared and distributed to parents. To increase attendance and
make them convenient for parents to attend, the meeting is repeated during
the day and evening. To reach more parents, the meetings are conducted in
English and Spanish. Incentives, including food and a drawing for a free computer,
are included to increase attendance.
| What does the school need to provide? |
| |
The school must provide a suitable meeting room with a screen and an
overhead projector. The room must be available all day and into the
evening and have access to a restroom.
